T-Mobile! Scandal!
While T-Mobile customers across the UK have been left outraged at the news that their own network has breached every kind of privacy law by selling their personal data, non T-mobile customers are equally incensed that their own networks are actually creating the market by purchasing the data! As our friend Flora at CNET comments , if you get a cold call from another network offering you a deal when your contract is about to run out, not only is it unsolicited and potentially rather annoying but they could have actually paid to steal your data in the first place! One of our stellar software developers on a T-Mobile tariff was caught up in this fracas and recently pelted by all manner of calls from out of the blue. Little did we know that was only the tip of the iceberg! Luckily using a comparison service like ours, which actually tracks your usage month by month and reminds you when your contract is about to expire, or another price comparison calculator, allows you to take your mobile matters into your own hands and find the best deal for you without the “help” of those data cowboys

Videoconferencing services have been touted as the “next big thing” for a decade or more, but poor video quality and time lags have hampered uptake. However, the latest generation of videoconferencing services, known as Telepresence, take advantage of class-of-service capabilities on MPLS networks to deliver high-definition video and audio, life size and in real time. The first-generation uptake on Telepresence has largely been for within-organization collaboration at large multinationals

Courts May Award Damages Against Publishers for Sending Unsolicited Text Messages
The Publisher Simon & Schuster may soon be forced to cough up the roughly $90 million in fines and payouts associated with the class action lawsuit it’s facing for the ill-advised Stephen King promo. This was made known by the court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit which has decided unanimously that a text message campaign led by the company that sent an unintentionally threatening message to thousands of users could cost the publisher $90 million dollars. In 2003, to promote the then new Stephen King novel, ‘Cell,’ the publisher used a list of over 60, 000 phone numbers collected by a third party, not involved in the case, to send the offending text message

Noteable as this news cycle winds down ( “ Craigslist Pwns McMaster ,” “ Pandering Has Its Price ,” “ Craigslist 1, McMaster 0 ,” “ McMaster’s Final Humiliation” ) has been the absolute disinterest shown by politicians and journalists in hardcore sex-for-money ads featured in journalistic media, no matter how numerous or graphic they may be. Here are a few out of tens of thousands of “escort ads” featured on backpage.com adult classifieds owned by Village Voice Media , publisher of a chain of weekly newspapers. Using Sun’s Jigsaw May Get You Fired
This week at EclipseCon I have had the pleasure of meeting Alex Buckley, Sun’s Java language supremo and spec lead for JSR 294 . For those of you who do not memorise JSR numbers, 294 was originally known as “superpackages”, was killed off for a while, and is now back in the form of enhancements to the Java language to support modularity. As an OSGi supporter I have no problem in principle with JSR 294, indeed it may make the use of OSGi easier, especially for beginners learning the Java language
