Mozilla fixes Firefox holes, curtails clickjacking

Mozilla released two new versions of its browser on Tuesday, Firefox 3.6.9 and Firefox 3.5.12 , to close 10 critical security vulnerabilities in each and to help Web site operators block a risk called clickjacking. Firefox 3.6.9 is also available from CNET Download.com for Windows , Mac , and Linux Critical vulnerabilities can let a remote attacker run arbitrary code on a computer. With Web browsers becoming both more important and more powerful, browser makers must constantly watch for new attack possibilities

BlackBerry maker RIM buys Documents To Go’s Data Viz

Documents To Go got its start on Palm and is in a pitched battle with rival Quickoffice on iPhone. (Credit: Screenshot by Jessica Dolcourt/CNET) We heard the rumor on Friday that BlackBerry-maker RIM snapped up Data Viz , makers of the popular productivity app Documents To Go , but it wasn’t until Tuesday that RIM confirmed the purchase to CNET with a statement: RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the transaction was not material to RIM in the context of RIM’s financial results.

New Firefox beta offers audio API, menu tweaks

The iTunes-for-apps , Allmyapps , has just announced its first round of funding with French VC fund, Elaia Partners – the same firm that has backed French all-stars like Goom Radio , Goojet and Criteo . With 1 million in the bank, the Paris-based company founded in June 2009 plans to focus on product development and emerge as the leading Microsoft-dedicated app store. Just so happens that Allmyapps, founded by Thibauld Favre and Arnaud Coulondre , is also the company that won the startup pitch competition at TechCrunch Paris in March.

In less than a year on the market, Windows 7 is now being used more than predecessor Windows Vista, according to market researcher Netmarketshare. For July, Windows 7 was used on 14.46 percent of devices accessing the Internet, compared with Windows Vista’s 14.34 percent, marking the first time the newer version surpassed its predecessor. Microsoft details Office for Mac 2011 release

Microsoft on Monday announced pricing and availability for its Office for Mac 2011 software suite. The version of the Office suite for users of Apple’s Mac computers is scheduled for release via retail outlets at the end of October, in two editions: Office for Mac Home and Business 2011, and Office for Mac Home and Student 2011. “For better alignment across platforms,” Microsoft said in a statement, “the Office 2011 pricing and edition options map closer with Office for the Windows operating system.” The software titan also said that anyone buying Office 2008 for Mac between August 1 and November 30 will be able to upgrade without an additional charge.
