TRAI: Disppointing response from Appellate Authority

As per the previous post, it is clear that they have sought to “play down” my response and call it as “hypothetical question”. If it doesn’t smack of playing favorites, then what else does?

Mobile number portability and TRAI: Suckers

As per the media reports, the mobile number portability is delayed because BSNL and MTNL were not ready for it. In any case, I am toying with the idea of filing a second RTI application but my attention is fixated on academics and it would be impossible to keep a track of the same. In case anyone among the readers feels motivated enough, please let me know through feedback on drapuri (at) gmail (dot) com and I would happily guide the way out including help with drafting of the application.

TRAI: Second appeal filed with CIC

After receiving no reply from the morons, I have filed a second appeal with CIC, New Delhi. The best part is that it’s free, it’s as easy as it can get by typing in the required information in the drop down boxes and all you have to upload is the copy of the letters sent to the earlier PIO. This is my first experience with Right to Information Act and has been a learning one too.

Post-grad Pigeon

I complete my MFA in Design and Technolgoy studies a week from tomorrow, and will be graduating a few days after that.  It has been wonderful to work on Pigeon at Parsons.  I’m hoping to launch Pigeon as a full time venture moving forward.  Pigeon will start by focusing on US immigrants and the people that matter to them back in their home countries.  I’m currently exploring running Pigeon as a for-profit that has an eye on social investment (perhaps as a registered B Corp ).  We’ll see what happens, but I’m excited for the next step.

NYTimes: One Internet Village, Divided

The “ One Internet Village, Divided ” article in today’s NYTimes is about the problems that poplular internet sites (YouTube, Facebook, MySpace) are facing with creating revenue from traffic in emerging markets. The video site Veho has gone so far as to block users from Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe.  MySpace is creating a default low bandwidth profile for users in India, and Facebook is focusing on member acquisition before worrying about monetizing.  YouTube had been developing localized versions of its service in Brazil, India, and Poland but has now switched to trying to make money with reports that it may lose around $470 million this year
