Dear PoP – Where are the cheap but delicious Mexican options in DC?
“Dear PoP, What does everyone think of cheap, but delicious, Mexican options in DC? Everyone seems to rave about Lauriol Plaza, but to be honest – the long wait for a table just isn’t made any better by the fact that the food is subpar and, while the margaritas are pretty good- they aren’t anything special or unique. I tend to be the only person in DC with this viewpoint.

Military families and digital literacy
Posted by David Green, Public Affairs Fellow My father was in the Army while I was growing up and I moved around a lot. It was fun and exciting but occasionally a little sad since every two years I packed up my things and said goodbye to my friends. We always promised to stay in touch but as addresses changed and phone numbers got lost we eventually drifted apart

Trimming our privacy policies
Posted by Mike Yang, Associate General Counsel (Cross-posted from the Official Google Blog ) Long, complicated and lawyerly—that’s what most people think about privacy policies, and for good reason. Even taking into account that they’re legal documents, most privacy policies are still too hard to understand. So we’re simplifying and updating Google’s privacy policies.

Content ID explained at TED
Posted by Mistique Cano, Manager, Public Policy Communications YouTube’s Margaret Gould Stewart recently gave a TED talk about how YouTube’s Content ID system cross-references over 24 hours of uploaded content a minute with our rights holder database to give copyright owners choices. For Amber Lyon, CNN
I see you’ve now gotten around to requesting an interview with me or a company spokesperson, 90 days after you ambushed our namesake and founder, Craig Newmark , following his May 20th talk on veteran’s affairs and other issues unrelated to craigslist, at a conference in Washington. You knew Craig was not in management or a company spokesperson, but setting CNN’s ethical code aside, you sidestepped company channels in favor of ambushing our semi-retired founder, complete with a misleading “set up” for your surprise questions. Now that CNN has aired your highly misleading piece dozens of times, mischaracterizing your stunt as a serious interview on this subject, and you’ve updated your “bio” to showcase this rare jewel of investigative journalism, you’re ready to try actually interviewing the company itself on this subject.

An update on our ITA Software acquisition
Posted by Andrew Silverman, Senior Product Manager Last month we announced our plans to acquire ITA Software. Today, after meeting with many companies in the industry, we’re even more excited about building new tools that will make it easier for consumers to search for flights, compare flight options, and get you quickly to a site where you can buy a ticket. We’ve been encouraged by the travel industry support we’ve seen for this acquisition — from airlines to online travel agencies.

Manual Screening Matters
craigslist is committed to being socially responsible, and when it comes to adult services ads, that includes aggressively combating violent crime and human rights violations, including human trafficking and the exploitation of minors. We are working intensively as I write this with experts and thought leaders at leading non-profits and among law enforcement on further substantive measures we can take

“Family Friendly” eBay classifieds
An interesting Facebook page recently came to our attention, dedicated to the proposition that one can literally “stop human trafficking” by using eBay’s “family friendly” classifieds instead of craigslist . eBay touts the advanced filtering technologies eBay employs to “make sure all of our categories and content are family-friendly,” technologies it no doubt applies to the “broader eBay Classifieds family including Gumtree, Marktplaats, Mobile.de and Loquo, which extends the reach of eBay Classifieds to more than 20 countries.” As a practical example of eBay’s “advanced filtering” and “family friendly” classifieds, we’ve been shown some ads currently live on eBay’s Loquo.com classifieds site, which features thousands of paid ads offering various sexual acts in exchange for money (NSFW).

Advocate Indeed
Malika Saada Saar, We saw your performance on CNN, and have read your recent letter. You claim to be “appalled that [craigslist is] requesting the police reports from young victims as proof of their trauma.” As you must know, because it was quite clear in my letter to you, we asked for the police reports for the **perpetrators** of these crimes, not for personal information about the victims.

Facts about our network neutrality policy proposal
Posted by Richard Whitt, Washington Telecom and Media Counsel Over the past few days there’s been a lot of discussion surrounding our announcement of a policy proposal on network neutrality we put together with Verizon. On balance, we believe this proposal represents real progress on what has become a very contentious issue, and we think it could help move the network neutrality debate forward constructively. We don’t expect everyone to agree with every aspect of our proposal, but there has been a number of inaccuracies about it, and we do want to separate fact from fiction.

Building at 11th and Monroe Streets, NW Still Becoming Condos
“Dear PoP, The large apartment building at 11th & Monroe seems to have hit a stand still since its insides were removed in May. While walking to the metro this morning, I noticed that the sign advertising the condos that were slated to go there is no longer on the building. Please tell me that the wind blew it away and construction will resume as soon as the parts arrive?

Flipboard Finally Goes Social
Flipboard the much heralded social magazine which allows users to flip virtual pages on the iPad as they search news and activities has a new addition to their app. As of today you can connect your Twitter and Facebook accounts and flip through them as easily as you might flip through tech news. I did notice the second of three times I entered the program it didn’t pull up my social networks and when I clicked through on a Facebook posted I had to login to the ubiquitous social network once again.

AT&T Churn Rate Insanely Low
Gary Kim does a great job explaining in an article that Customers will put up with a a lot of imperfection in service quality as evidenced by the 1% churn rate of AT&T versus the industry average of 3%. One wonders however if this staggering low rate isn’t just consumers not wanting to give up their iPhones.

Conducting Video Interviews in NYC Today
It’s been a great day so far. Got up early, scanned hundreds of headlines, got caught up on email (for a while anyway, and that doesn’t include emails prior to today), found parking at the train station and I even found a train with some empty seats. I decided to purchase a an egg white flatbread sandwich at Dunkin Donuts in the train station and this caused me to miss my train.
