Thinking in Hashtags

We went shopping for clothes today. This is not something we do very often, but my wife had a gift card for Dillards so we went to see if we could find anything. My wife finally found some shirts she wanted to try on, but the store was short-staffed so the first couple of fitting rooms we tried were locked up

Google Far More Feared than Microsoft

“What happens if Google chooses to come into your space with your own content?” I grew up at a time when companies were afraid of Microsoft because whenever they came up with a good idea, Redmond would copy it and potentially put them out of business. They weren’t always successful but having the world’s largest software company in your market was generally a recipe for reducing investor interest. And I would have to say that after a lack of marketing skill, no other force has slain more tech entrepreneurs than Microsoft.

How publishers are trying to kill off publicly-owned tech media outlets

It’s a trend that is highly unlikely to happen in the US due to its ubiquitous privatization of, well, everything. However in good old Europe, where control of the media is often under the hood of governmental institutions such as the BBC in the UK, or ARD in Germany, on the one hand, and in the hands of private media companies on the other, problems can arise. More recently this has happened to a highly respected and, in German speaking countries, well known property called “ Futurezone “, which is operated by the Austrian Broadcasting cooperation (ORF) – an institution comparable to the BBC.

English UK Wins High Court Battle

After reporting earlier this year about the new student visa clampdown that was about to take effect in the UK, and how these new changes were going to threaten most English Schools in the UK , English UK challenged the government over these new regulations and won! On the 8th July 2010 Mr Justice Foskett, sitting in London, declared the fresh restrictions had been achieved through altering guidelines when there should have been a formal change to the rules, with the matter referred back to Parliament. English UK are now asking that the rules be reverted back to the days prior to March 3rd when students could come to the UK to study English with only basic English language skills. Tony Milns, chief executive of English UK, said: “This judgment upholds our basic case that the Home Secretary was wrong to introduce a substantive change … without laying that change before Parliament.” English UK estimates the ruling has saved “more than £3,000 jobs and over £600 million a year in foreign earnings”.

Apple Attributes iPhone 4 Poor Reception to Wrong Calculation Formula – What are the solutions?

In regards to the reception problem users have been complaining about since the iPhone 4 launch, Apple explained it is due to the wrong formula it has been using to calculate the number of signal bars to display. In a letter to iPhone 4 owners, the company said after investigation, it was “stunned” to discover that the calculation formula used on all iPhone models often overstates signal strength by two bars. This explains the sudden drop in bars when the iPhone 4 is held in a way that covers the black strip on its lower left corner (circled in picture), which is known as the “death grip” across the Internet
