Phone Card Connection Fees
Connection fees can be one of the more onerous and tricky hidden fees charged by phone card service providers. Some phone card suppliers advertise enticingly low rates for making calls but charge a connection fee which is a hidden charge that is not included in the advertised rate. This fee is charged whenever a call is connected so it is a charge for each call that is made and is not based on the duration of the call.

The Wonder of Nature
Being in France one got used to all sorts of creatures running around in the garden (and the house of some occasions) from very large Toads to Lizards and Snakes plus the occasional Wild Boar and Bull (from the next field, who liked grazing in our orchard rather than their own field). I have some wonderful stories about one particular Bull which I named Daisy (I know the name doesnt suit) I’ll cover this soon.

As Time Goes By
OK If you read my previous Blog, then you may have guessed what we now do to keep the wolves from the door. Its that four letter word that has become a household name. Having spent the majority of money that we came back from France with on a very modest house – we had very little money to play with, but we felt a permanent residence was better than renting, at least the money we had would not quietly diminish

What Are Your Best Pre-Algebra Websites?
My Math Department is building a website with resources to help incoming (and existing) freshmen with some of the math skills that will help them be successful in high school mathematics. At this time, they are focusing on three areas: Fractions (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) Integers (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) Order of Operations We would really appreciate it if you would share websites (either explanatory or skills practice, or both) that you think are helpful for students in these areas. If you have a website you think would be really helpful that doesn’t fall into one of these areas, feel free to add that as well, as they hope to expand on this site in the future

The Rise-and-Shine Discussion
With my stint in Houston a few days behind me, and a much needed vacation stretching out before me, all I’m left with are the few freelance jobs I’ve taken on to keep me busy. So waking up early is….well, just an option. I can meander from under my covers as early (or late) as I want, and while enjoying the benefits of my new found liberty, I wondered how the rest of Blog Catalog feels about waking up. The discussion topic this week was simply, “What’s the First Thing You Do When You Wake Up?”. The responses came in a pretty wide variety. Going pee first thing was a trending response, as was saying a quick prayer. HaplessHermit even said he cries first thing in the morning. But the most common answer seemed to be ignoring (or abusing) that good ole faithful alarm clock. Scenexg responded that he’ll “hit the snooze button 7 times” before he gets out of bed every morning. Jaspuri chimed in that his alarm, which is an app on his mobile phone, won’t allow him to hit the snooze button until he’s solved a maze and a math puzzle! My praises go out to Jaspuri for having more strength than I. I punch my blackberry when it doesn’t open Google fast enough, I can only imagine what I’d do if it wouldn’t shut up at 5 AM

POSA – Alternative to physical phone cards
One of the problems with selling phone cards is that the phone card issuers (the companies that make the phone cards) still largely play the same games. They come out with a new phone card every month or so for each region of the world. When a new phone card is released the issuing company proclaims the new phone card as the best thing since sliced bread

IPv6 or IPv4? What will we see in the first wave of LTE networks?
All the talk early this year seems to be about LTE deployment to alleviate chronic Apple and other smartphones induced indigestion on the AT&T and other major Mobile Networks swamped by data traffic. The telluric shift albeit the user will not care or should not notice is that when he or she will power on that smartphone or whatever the communicating Swiss Knife will be called, it will request an IP address to complete an IP based call. A device without an IP address will be rather difficult to reach and the ungodly NATword should not even be whispered

Why Long Distance Calling Cards Will Save You Money
For years I have been a frequent calling card user for my long distance calls. What I like the most about them is that they save me money, I don’t have to switch carrier and I get a high quality connection for my calls. To me these are reasons good as any that you too should switch to calling cards for all your long distance phone calls

Phone Card Comments Welcome
Almost every week I get calls from my vendors telling me about their new phone cards for calling Africa, or their new phone cards for calling mexico or central america, philippines or somewhere in the world. I publish the image of the phone card here and also post the phone card poster. Most of the major phone cards companies have gotten into trouble over the past few years for advertising minutes that are not real

Am I Dating Myself?
The other day I came across an article by a woman who claimed to have the secret to finding your life partner. This woman chose to work for 18 years on herself with experimental therapy, holistic meditation techniques and read books and took classes all for the betterment of her own self. She wanted to erase all of her inner demons, all of her insecurities. Then after nearly two decades of seeking love within herself, she found her life partner and they lived happily ever after. Kind of like a new-age Cinderella, no? Well, despite the skeptic that I am, I actually took something she said to heart: I knew, even then, that if I kept up any sort of pretense and tried to be something that I was not, then I would only meet men who had similar masks and armor and, in the long-term, none of my relationships would ever work.

Nokia Shaves its Phone Prices after Reporting Satisfactory Q4 Shipments
The world’s largest phone maker Nokia decided to slash the prices on handsets across its portfolio by around 10 percent in late January, according to Reuters, just a few days after posting strong sales for its October-December quarter of 2009. The Finnish company does not provide exact pricing for specific models, but it is believed that the price cut will bring its smartphone models more in line with the mid-range offerings from its competitors, Samsung and Sony Ericsson . But even without reducing its handset prices, Nokia was able to deliver solid numbers for the previous three-month period
