A New York maker moves to China…

A nice letter (and photos) from MAKE reader Evan – Hi Phil – We’ve met a few times at MAKE meetings and at the FIRST competition at the Javits center – I taught at NYC public schools for seven years and mentored robotics teams around the city during that time. My wife and I decided to make a big lifestyle change and have been living for the past month in Hangzhou, China, where we are both teaching at an international school for two years. Given the difficult task of moving across oceans (and the increased difficulty of shipping things TO China), I made the decision to bring primarily clothes, laptop computers, and whatever books and documents we thought might be necessary over here.

Can Wikileaks afford to back the undiplomatic Julian Assange?

“He’s a classic Aussie in the sense that he’s a bit of a male chauvinist.” That quote comes at the end of a piece on the recent escapades of Julian Assange, founder and chief spokesman for Wikileaks . It seems apt, because it’s becoming increasingly clear that an organisation which aspiries to transparency and the high ideals of open information is going to have problems going forward if it continues to entertain an individual who lacks transparency and whose private life is alleged by his female accusers to be be riddled with low ideals.

Bharti Airtel Ties-Up With ip.access For Picocells – Readying For MNP?

A few days ago, Bharti Airtel took a big step towards customer satisfaction by stopping bulks SMS services . This was great news for customers of the telecom giants as more and more mobile users around India were troubled through such services. Being the first in the industry to do so has definitely given Airtel an edge over other services providers in the industry (though there might still be some disgruntled customers regarding service).

Yes you heard it right – Air India is the MOST TRUSTED BRAND IN INDIAN AVIATION ! To be honest, I don’t buy it, but before I say that let us first analyze the survey a little.

How The Internet Can Reduce Global Theft

A while back I left a GPS unit in a rental car and when I returned it. I don’t want to be offensive to any particular company so I will refer to the GPS company supplying my device as PomPom . When I realized I wasn’t going to get it back I called the company because I remembered it was M2M-enabled and as such I paid a $10/month fee for Google search access and other online goodies.
