Sony Ericsson Posts Shrinking Loss for Q4 2009
Sony Ericsson has released its financial results for the last quarter of 2009 with a narrower loss, continuing the positive trend shown in the prior quarter . However, this also marked its sixth consecutive quarterly loss and brought a whopping €836 million deficit for the whole year. The Swedish-Japanese joint venture reported a forth-quarter loss of €167 million (US$235 million), showing a slight improvement on the €187 million loss a year earlier

250,000 White House Staffers, Visitors Affected by National Archives Data Breach
A data breach at the National Archives and Records Administration is more serious than previously believed. It involved sensitive personal information of 250,000 Clinton administration staff members, job applicants and White House visitors, as well as the Social Security number of at least one daughter of former Vice President Al Gore. The data, which included more than 100,000 Social Security numbers, was stored on a computer hard drive that the NARA discovered missing last April from a data processing room in Maryland.

Consumers from all over the world are quickly embracing mobile technologies for shopping, as over half (51 percent) of consumers across 11 countries reported using their cell phones as product research tools and bargain finders during the 2009 holiday shopping season, according to a new study released by Motorola . In-store activities performed by holiday shoppers on handsets include price comparison, reading product reviews, finding product information, and seeking coupons and discounts online. Although last year’s figures are not available for comparison, Motorola said the number of people using their smartphones for shopping has surged this year

News of targeted attacks on Google , Adobe , and other large companies were made public last week. The initial assumption was that the attacks were done with malicious PDF files but on Thursday Microsoft released information that the attacks were done with a new security vulnerability in Internet Explorer. This is interesting as the majority of targeted attacks are using email attachments sent to one or a few recipients at a target organization
