Launch of 3G Telecom Services by end of 2008

A Raja,Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology, said that 3G (third-generation) telecom services will be launched by end of 2008. And in sharp contrast to recommendations made by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Raja has said that even foreign telecom companies will be permitted to bid for 3G spectrum. Earlier, TRAI had suggested that only Unified Access Service License (UASL) holders should be allowed to participate in 3G auctions

Airtel to launch calling cards for NRIs in Singapore, Canada

IANS March 12, 2008 Bharti Airtel, India’s leading mobile service provider, Tuesday said it would launch calling cards for non-resident Indians (NRIs) in Singapore and Canada by April-June of this year. The company also launched an enhanced version of the CallHome Service, its calling card for NRIs in the US. The upgraded version enables a caller in the US to make payments through Indian credit cards for purchasing talk time for calling to India.
