POSA – Alternative to physical phone cards
One of the problems with selling phone cards is that the phone card issuers (the companies that make the phone cards) still largely play the same games. They come out with a new phone card every month or so for each region of the world. When a new phone card is released the issuing company proclaims the new phone card as the best thing since sliced bread

IPv6 or IPv4? What will we see in the first wave of LTE networks?
All the talk early this year seems to be about LTE deployment to alleviate chronic Apple and other smartphones induced indigestion on the AT&T and other major Mobile Networks swamped by data traffic. The telluric shift albeit the user will not care or should not notice is that when he or she will power on that smartphone or whatever the communicating Swiss Knife will be called, it will request an IP address to complete an IP based call. A device without an IP address will be rather difficult to reach and the ungodly NATword should not even be whispered

Amid all the fanfare yesterday at Google's keynote speech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where Eric Schmidt talked about 'mobile first' and 'mobile technology being fundamental to human existence', one thing was missing from the reporting of the press conference which we wanted to highlight – Mr Schmidt's inclusion of Truphone in the video of applications for Android handsets that was shown as part of his presentation!!

Why Long Distance Calling Cards Will Save You Money
For years I have been a frequent calling card user for my long distance calls. What I like the most about them is that they save me money, I don’t have to switch carrier and I get a high quality connection for my calls. To me these are reasons good as any that you too should switch to calling cards for all your long distance phone calls

VW Jetta Sportswagen TDI
On a beautiful sunny Valentine’s Day, we were just checking around town. Chilled down for a cuppa joe at Peet’s next to Apple Store in Burlingame. Orkid and I discussed whichever I should get a laptop or desktop computer. I could get a 15″ with a 24″ LED monitor to go with it when I need more work space. Yeah, I need it for graphic designing

Phone Card Comments Welcome
Almost every week I get calls from my vendors telling me about their new phone cards for calling Africa, or their new phone cards for calling mexico or central america, philippines or somewhere in the world. I publish the image of the phone card here and also post the phone card poster. Most of the major phone cards companies have gotten into trouble over the past few years for advertising minutes that are not real

Student Visa Clampdown Confirmed for the UK
The new visa rules that emerged last month for the UK were unveiled Wednesday (10th February 2010) by the home secretary Alan Johnson. There were large concerns that the new proposed rule changes would impact English language schools , as it would increase the level of english required by applicants to a level that would rule out most students who come to the UK to study English. The new rules to the “Points Based UK Visa System” was partially in response to a scam where older international female students were applying as a student to also bring in their husbands to the UK as dependents, and as such the changes are as follows: Require overseas students to have higher standards of English (the equivalent of just below GCSE), Halving the amount of time students can work each term-time week to 10 hours Banning dependents of anyone studying for less than six months

Irrationally different seeing
I’ve been reading Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely, and just reached the chapter on the power of expectations to change perception. The introductory example comes from sport: the supporters of two rival teams watch the same key, game-deciding moment, and for one of them the ball (or player, or something – it’s American football, so it’s all Greek to me…) is obviously conspicuously in, and for the other it’s just as obviously out. “Although both friends were watching the same game, they were doing so through markedly different lenses

Am I Dating Myself?
The other day I came across an article by a woman who claimed to have the secret to finding your life partner. This woman chose to work for 18 years on herself with experimental therapy, holistic meditation techniques and read books and took classes all for the betterment of her own self. She wanted to erase all of her inner demons, all of her insecurities. Then after nearly two decades of seeking love within herself, she found her life partner and they lived happily ever after. Kind of like a new-age Cinderella, no? Well, despite the skeptic that I am, I actually took something she said to heart: I knew, even then, that if I kept up any sort of pretense and tried to be something that I was not, then I would only meet men who had similar masks and armor and, in the long-term, none of my relationships would ever work.

Nokia Shaves its Phone Prices after Reporting Satisfactory Q4 Shipments
The world’s largest phone maker Nokia decided to slash the prices on handsets across its portfolio by around 10 percent in late January, according to Reuters, just a few days after posting strong sales for its October-December quarter of 2009. The Finnish company does not provide exact pricing for specific models, but it is believed that the price cut will bring its smartphone models more in line with the mid-range offerings from its competitors, Samsung and Sony Ericsson . But even without reducing its handset prices, Nokia was able to deliver solid numbers for the previous three-month period

Vienna, Austria: Schnitzel, Strudel, and Schwanensee
It all started as a familiar feeling, universally known by travelers as we-need-to-go-somewhere-new yearning. And travelers know: there’s no remedy for that other than giving in to it. There were some restrictions though: it had to be in Europe; we were on a budget.
