Goa priest, model in contract farming project
Two persons from totally different streams have been instrumental in reviving barren paddy fields of a village through contract farming. Father Patric D’Souza and international model Tinu Verghis came together two years back to herald contract farming for the first time in Goa at Pillar, a village on the city’s outskirts. ”It started almost two years back and now I am getting good response from the paddy field owners who are not able to cultivate their land,” said D’Souza, a priest from the Society of Pillar, a wing of the Catholic Church . The society’s Nature Farm wing has taken up the task of executing contract farming at fallow lands in and around the village. Mumbai-based Verghis, who has walked the ramp for many top brands, was the first one to offer her paddy field, ad-measuring around 6,000 sq mts, for the innovative farm arrangement between two parties.

Arduino-controlled mood lamp
Minneapolis maker Michael Krumpus, who also sells the EZ-Expander in the Maker’s Market, created this lovely mood lamp made out of LEDs, an Arduino Duemilanove, and glass vials he bought from the Twin Cities’ legendary Ax-Man surplus store. This is a mood lamp I build using 16 LEDs of different colors and small glass vials. The square bottoms of the vials look a lot like glass block, and the glass diffuses and scatters the light in beautiful ways.

Do It Proper with Copper
I love all of the instructional videos that are now available online. At this point, there are probably very few trades where you couldn’t get a decent starter education in the subject just by studying videos (and other materials) at trade association websites, online trade mags, and YouTube channels

SWM seeks experienced chemist for "explosive polymerization"
Image: S2-P2-P6, by sculptor Roxy Paine . About a year ago I was wandering around Maker Faire Bay Area thinking about polymerization. Collin had recently posted his now-world-famous cymatics video , and I was standing around talking to the TAP plastics folks about whether it might be possible to “freeze” cymatic forms by applying the sound waves to some kind of polymer resin that could then be solidifed, almost instantaneously, by adding a drop or two of catalyst

Unchanging hexagrams and patterns of change
(Note: this is a quick post, throwing an idea out into the ether as soon as it hatches, with just a few feathers sticking to its scrawny neck, and a great big gaping beak squawking ‘Feed me!’ It is distinctly lacking in flight-feathers of its own as yet.) People instinctively feel that there must be some distinct, special meaning in receiving an unchanging hexagram.

Three Important Factors for Great Photographs
Ok, I get you like small form-factor cameras because having one with you is better than having a pro rig that’s in the closet at home, but which camera do you suggest for an advanced amateur photographer? I take a lot of pictures of our [dog, cat, ferret, parakeet, hamster, kids] to send to grandparents and post on Facebook, but want to be able to shoot really good quality pictures too, not just snapshots. What do you recommend?
