Birds of a feather flock together
Although branding a commercial airline is something I’d love to do, it’s unlikely that by working solo I’ll get the opportunity. Should it ever come to pass, however, there’s one design option I’ll be sure to rule out — the bird in a circle. Air Algerie Air Jamaica Ariana Cameroon Air Condor Iraqi Airways Japan Airlines (previous) Lloyd Aeroe Boliviano Lufthansa Designed by Otto Firle, in 1918 Modified by Otl Aicher , in 1969 Tame Airlines Tarom Romanian Air Transport Turkish Airlines Zambia Airways In fact, it’s probably wise that I steer clear of birds altogether

Content ID and Fair Use
Posted by Shenaz Zack, Product Manager (Cross-posted from the Official YouTube Blog ) Over the past decade, the evolution of the Internet has altered the landscape for both traditional media companies and the doctrine of fair use, and the media industry has tried to keep up. The new ways that consumers create and distribute content are not a niche phenomenon. Hundreds of millions of people around the world now use the Web to connect and interact with content online, and a huge percentage of them go even further: they express themselves via parodies , celebrate their favorite videos with mashups, and use music in educational presentations.

The MNO Priority List
Like every other player within the voice industry, mobile operators know that they will eventually need to transition to an all-IP solution to gain the same benefits that other players are seeking, such as cost savings, more efficient architectures, and more flexible networks. However, mobile operators have a different relative priority list that is driving their transition to IP. Because mobile services still command a premium, particularly for international calling and roaming, cost efficiencies aren’t as urgent a driver as for traditional carriers, who have seen their margins eroded through intense competitive pressures

Lalit Modi, and how the IPL issue is blowing into a Congress-NCP issue
It seemed like a small issue, and initially, we could not believe it. How can Lalit Modi, who otherwise seemed such a successful organizer (and would have had to overcome so many obstacles including people trying to take his position) find himself in such a position. And the more so with Shashi Tharoor, who had

Liquidity on the currency futures vs. the Nifty futures
India is the second country of the world, after Brazil, where the currency futures are more liquid than the currency forwards. Today when I glanced at the order book of the near month rupee-dollar futures, I was struck by the big numbers that are visible: The tick size of this market is 0.25 paisa, so the top five prices cover 1.25 paisa on each side. So there’s nothing interesting about the prices: I focus on the quantities

Earth Day Organic Fabric Giveaway Extraordinaire
Last week, I was approached by Jan DiCintio, the fantastic bundle of energy and talent behind Daisy Janie , to participate in a giveaway to promote Earth Day and organic fabrics. It took me all of 1 second to sign on, and, luckily for you, 11 other designers (in whose company I am humbled to be included) did, too! Now, before you get to the goodies, how’s about a few useful factoids? Even people who carefully seek out and are willing to pay a premium for organic milk or produce for their families may not see the value of organic cotton—it’s not as though we are eating it, right

Greater transparency around government requests
Posted by David Drummond, SVP, Corporate Development and Chief Legal Officer (cross-posted from the Official Google Blog ) Article 19 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights states that “everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” Written in 1948, the principle applies aptly to today’s Internet — one of the most important means of free expression in the world. Yet government censorship of the web is growing rapidly: from the outright blocking and filtering of sites, to court orders limiting access to information and legislation forcing companies to self-censor content. So it’s no surprise that Google, like other technology and telecommunications companies, regularly receives demands from government agencies to remove content from our services.

Transparent Algebra: Homework
So, I’ve previously talked about going back in the classroom and about my initial thoughts on assessment (thanks for all the very helpful feedback), so in this post I’m going to talk about my plans for homework. Homework is one of those crazy things that I’m completely for and completely against. (While that may sound a little nuts (or a lot nuts), I cling to this quote from F

Measuring inflation better
In India, inflation measurement is commonly done using year-on-year growth rates. The change in a price index from March 2009 to March 2010 shows the average rate of change over the 12 intervening months. But the most important thing to focus on is the point-on-point change seen in January, February and March

Advantages of a Long Distance Relationship
Relationships can be hard, but they can be even harder when distance separates you from that special person you cherish the most. I know it can be hard keeping up a long distance relationship, whether you and your lover attended different universities in different regions, or if your lover’s career takes them away from home for long periods of time. I have personal experience with this being that I live in Toronto, Canada and had a girlfriend from Thunder Bay, Canada

differences between scheduled and on-demand Rondee conference calls
Here were some questions recently asked that others have also been asking about: I am registered… and have a custom PIN. When I set up a conference call on demand… I set up a different PIN. Why is that? Scheduled Rondee and Rondee-On-Demand operate on two different systems even though they both access the same conference bridge

Cheap International Calls from South Korea
