Synchronicity with readings

I’m sorry to go so quiet lately. I’ve been having wonderful experiences with Yi, and readings, and connections and shifts happening… and all to do with clients’ readings, so I can never share them here in public. (I’m very happy that I’m blessed with clients who share my joy in these things and laugh in recognition at synchronicities.) Here’s one I can share, though… This morning I picked up a book to read over breakfast before getting started on the first reading of the day, and opened it to this quotation from Rilke: “I want to beg you… to be patient towards all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue

Reliance Infocomm: Second innings

The earlier avatar was “meh”. Even though I was a “satisfied” customer because Mukesh Ambani’s concern had licked off my hard earned money ( and I wasn’t a man enough to admit it), I was happy to get rid of Reliance. The second time I chose Reliance for it’s unlimited call offer but the fact was that it had a PATHETIC coverage

Privacy in Peril: Lawyers, Nations Clamor for Google Wi-Fi Data

A hard drive with perhaps several hundred gigabytes of internet surfers’ private data resides under lock and key in a Portland, Oregon, federal courthouse. Regulators and private lawyers across Europe and the United States are demanding, and in some cases obtaining, access to data that Google sniffed for the past three years from unsecured Wi-Fi hot spots across the globe. The requests are coming in some of the eight proposed class actions targeting Google that have cropped up across the United States, as well as from various governments investigating whether Google violated their laws

Blazing the online safety trail

Posted by Mandy Albanese, Online Safety team (Cross-posted from the Official Google Blog ) When I was in middle school, computer class was spent learning the basics of “keyboarding” and rushing to finish the lesson so I could get back to my journey on the Oregon Trail . My main goal was to survive the river crossings, maintain enough buffalo meat to sustain my family and arrive safely in California with my entire fake family still alive. Today, many schools are teaching their first graders the basic computer skills I was learning at 13

‘I Can’t Believe What I’m Confessing to You’: The Wikileaks Chats

On May 21, 22-year-old Army intelligence analyst Bradley Manning initiated a series of online chats with former hacker Adrian Lamo after a story on Lamo was published at Wired.com. The chats continued over several days, during which Manning claimed that he was responsible for leaking classified material to the whistleblower site Wikileaks. Lamo tipped off the FBI and the Army about Manning’s claims, and on May 26, Manning was seized by Army authorities and put into pre-trial detention in Kuwait.

Malicious Software to Avoid Online

As a tech person I am often called upon to help people I know fix their computers when there is a problem. While my regular readers are no doubt aware of many of the Internet scams which infect computers with malware, Trojans and viruses, I imagine many of you have had to spend hours and money trying to undo damage done by some of this software because others have been duped into clicking where they shouldn’t have. Having said that, I have been meaning to put together some graphics of “legitimate looking” scams to avoid and today my capable MIS team sent these images around – which of course reminded me to attend to this post which has been on my mind for a while.

Microsoft Europe tweet mocks Google’s copy-cat background image feature

Microsoft Europe’s communication team has used its Twitter account to make fun of Google’s latest search page feature: the ability to add background images to said page, a feature that has characterized Microsoft’s Bing search service since its debut. Google yesterday temporarily added a default background image to make more people aware of the new feature, which apparently prompted Microsoft Europe to tweet: “We’ve lost a background image, if found please return to bing.com ”.

England Vs USA – It’s the TechCrunch World Cup

This Saturday England will play the USA in the South Africa World Cup 2010. Personally, I’m hoping England won’t be as complacent as it was in 1950. Back then, the first World Cup saw after the Second World War saw the two teams face each other for the first time.

Three UK swims with the tide – iPhone 4 announced

At a press event I attended earlier this year , Three UK’s CEO Kevin Russell was repeatedly asked about why the network didn’t sell Apple’s iPhone and if it had plans to do so (along with the iPad too). Russel’s answer was that it was something that they were considering but hinted that Cupertino would need to offer a better deal first – although, ultimately, Three likes to ’swim in the opposite direction’ to the rest of the industry

Gold could fall 40% from peak: Prechter

Image via Wikipedia The price of gold could drop 40 per cent from its all-time high because of bearish technical momentum and deflation amid a European debt crisis, said Elliott Wave International President Robert Prechter on Monday. In January, he had forecast that gold could drop at least 40 per cent from its peak value because of deflation and over-ownership. Asked if Prechter still expected gold to correct 40 per cent, he said that extremes in technical indicators still “leave gold vulnerable to that large of a decline.” “I still feel that gold is not going to the moon here.

Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group poised for launch

Posted by Richard Whitt, Washington Telecom and Media Counsel For some time now, we’ve been advocating for the formation of a group of technical experts to put forward their best thinking on how to manage broadband networks in ways that still preserve and promote an open Internet. We’ve worked closely with Verizon and others in the Internet sector to further develop the concept, and we’re excited by today’s announcement that the Broadband Internet Technical Advisory Group , or BITAG, has begun the process of formally launching. To be clear, the BITAG is still very much a work in progress, and we welcome the involvement of other interested entities, especially those representing the Internet user community.
