WhipCast app hints at GOP smartphone of choice?

iPhones may be all the rage in tech-crazy Silicon Valley, but if a new political app is any indication, RIM’s BlackBerry is at the heart of government. This time the RIM love comes not from President Obama, who made headlines for trying to hold onto his BlackBerry after being sworn into office, but from across the aisle. From the office of Republican Whip Eric Cantor comes WhipCast for BlackBerry , a free GOP-focused aggregator for text, pictures, and videos from the House floor

Reverse Cell Phone Search – What You Have to Know to Find Exactly What You’re Looking For

In case you hadn’t noticed, there are no phone books for cell phones like we have for regular residences and businesses. You can’t just go to the white pages and look up a person’s information with a cellular number. And the reason for this is that the cell phone companies are trying to keep their customer’s data confidential.

But I am puzzled as to how you make money – what’s in it for you?”   It is true that we do not charge for our core service: Rondee Free Conference Calling.  However, some percentage of our users do sign-up for our premium service (Rondee Toll-Free) which is a paid service at five cents per minute per user.  In addition, we will be releasing new premium features in the future such as call transcription.

Trick or Tweet? Malware Abundant in Twitter URLs

As many as one in every 500 web addresses posted on Twitter lead to sites hosting malware, according to researchers at Kaspersky Labs who have deployed a tool that examines URLs circulating in tweets. The spread of malware is aided by the popular use of shortened URLs on Twitter, which generally hide the real website address from users before they click on a link, preventing them from self-filtering links that appear to be dodgy. Kaspersky, an anti-virus and computer-security firm based in Moscow, created a tool called Krab Krawler, which extracts URLs from millions of tweets a day

FDIC Warns Banks to Watch for ‘Money Mules’ Duped by Hackers

Bank customers are increasingly being duped into acting as “money mules” for hackers, unwittingly laundering cash stolen from business bank accounts, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation warned the nation’s financial institutions on Thursday. Using specialized Trojan horse malware , cybercrooks have been intercepting web-banking credentials from the computers of small and midsize businesses, and then initiating wire transfers to mules around the country. The mules are consumers who’ve been lured into fake work-at-home scams, in which their employment involves receiving money transfers and then forwarding the funds to Eastern Europe, either directly or through other mules.

Reverse Cell Phone Number Search – Tracing a Cell Phone Number in Just Minutes

People today are taking advantage of the reverse search technology to place a name and other information with a cell phone number. There are limitless reasons why that number may be important, but until the name is linked to the number there is no way to tell who the caller, or number owner is. Maybe there is a prank caller that keeps bothering you at home or a number jotted down on a piece of paper with no name attached.

In their presentation, co-founders Toon Coppens and Lorenz Bogaert introduced something other than the newly revamped site. The company has also been developing a separately branded social gaming platform called Gatcha! which was talked about publicly for the first time today

Today, Netlog – the ‘European MySpace’ as they’re often referred to – is hosting a Partner Day at and around their global headquarters in Ghent, Belgium. The most important thing the company will be sharing is a look at their redesigned website, which has been in the works for about a year and is today being rolled out to a number of key countries. Ranbir Kapoor rushes to Goa for Katrina’s rescue

It’s so hard to capture the very essence of what makes Goa irresistible, we all know the Goa beaches , the fenny, the laid back lifestyle, but it’s the romance, the charisma, the intoxicating feeling of this exotic locale that Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani tries to build into its story line. The Rajkumar Santoshi film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif is all about fun, romance and feeling good- same things that Goa stands for.

The Motorola Droid Hits Verizon USA.

The Droid has been somewhat sprung on us.  Problem ridden Motorola have done nothing of note seemingly since the V3, then surprised us all with the DEXT – a very capable but hardly groundbreaking new Android phone – so now they have unleashed a red-eyed robot to destroy the world!  No, that’s not right, what they’ve released is a mobile phone with a red-eye motif that just could see them make a return to the dizzy heights they achieved in the early 2000s. At first we knew it as the Sholes, then as a standalone phone made with Verizon, but now as the first in what seems like a line of phones, all under the Droid umbrella.  This phone however, has the Droid nametag all to itself and is a touchscreen handset with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, running Android 2.0 as its operating system, giving it the honour of being the first smartphone to do so.  Seeing as it was mere weeks ago we were introduced to the Droid, and not that long before to the Sholes; it’s surprising that the new phone will be released on the 6th November !  Now that’s the type of turnaround we like – are you listening Sony Ericsson?

Startup School 2009: 37 Signals has some lessons for European startups

Y combinator’s annual startup school event was held in Berkeley last Saturday and featured a stellar lineup of speakers including the founders of Twitter, Facebook and Zappos. The founders speaking were almost universally charming and funny, even Mark Zuckerberg who I was determined to dislike (he does look around 12 though). This reinforces my belief that charm goes a long way in business
