Happy birthday iPhone 3GS
A year ago today many of us were standing in line outside our local Apple Store waiting to get our geeky little hands on the iPhone 3GS , then king of the mobile space. Twice the speed, video recording, and VoiceControl were the killer features, even if the form factor was unchanged. Over the last twelve months, iPhone 3GS has served us well, and at its soon-to-be $99 price point, rocking iOS 4 , no doubt it will serve many budget smartphone shoppers well for another year to come.

Nokia E72 over VoIP
Using SIP I set up a voice over IP call between two E72 models using two accounts at SIPgate service provider. I had to configure SIPgate account settings: compatibility “on” and ensure call routing was only to VoIP phones. Then, using Nokia’s SIP settings client from Forum Nokia, I disabled all voip speech codecs except wide band AMR and the call succeeded
Not sure this is very useful for everyday telephony (wide band AMR codec is not inter-operable with G722 which is more common), more for curiosity..

The Best Reverse Cell Phone Finder
Being a Doubting Thomas is not a new thing especially when we are faced with some challenges about knowing the root of something of paramount importance to us. It might be challenges concerning one’s problem, about a friend who needs one’s help or that of a relative, but a challenge of intellectual test is somewhat rare and more difficult, this is because most people do not want to think, rather they prefer people to think for them.

How-To: Anodize aluminum
Ron Newman’s fantastic page on DIY room-temperature anodizing of aluminum parts was last revised in 2007, and looks like it may be significantly older than that. Ron’s selling a how-to book, now, and a bunch of anodizing supplies, from the same page, but to me it looks like there’s more than enough free info there already for a savvy person to figure it out for him- or herself

Start your streak and swing to win: iPhone apps of the week
(Credit: CNET) Probably like many people reading this blog post, I experienced firsthand the trouble Apple and AT&T had with the overwhelming number of preorders for the iPhone 4 on Tuesday. I thought I was being smart by deciding to skip the long lines and get the iPhone 4 delivered to my house, but I ended up getting nothing but errors after only the first few steps into the process. After several attempts, I decided to wait a couple of days before trying again and ended up buying the black 32GB model through Apple on Thursday
